CAUGHT IN STORM
MEN TAKEN OFF LAUNCH Two men had an unpleasant experience in a launch in the ha'rbou* when they were caught in the soutnerly storm which came up yesterday afternoon. ' • They set out at 12.15 p.m. in the-15----foot launch Aotea, to fish off llocky Point, about half a mile south,of the Petone railway crossing.' When* they saw the southerly storm coming up, they decided to make for the shelter of Somes Island, but three parts of the way across an air valve in the launch broke. They started to row, but were caught by the storm when only 500 yards from the island. The anchor was let go, but the seas were, very big, and "the launch started to drag. In the meantime the pilot vessel, Arahina had gone out from Wellington to look for six youths who had set out at 3.30 p.m. to row from a roCky island off Somes: Island to Wellington. It was later learnt that they had landed at Point Jerningham, but the arrival of the Arahina was fortunate for the two men in*'the launch, and they were taken oft when about a mile from the Potone beach. ' The launch was found drifting a fewyards ofT the beach near the Petone railway crossing at 7.30 last evening by Mr. P. Krey], and with the assistance of members of the Petone polica and tthers.it was dragged ashore,
