WAIRARAPA SCHOOLS
MINISTER'S DECISION
(Special. to the "Evening Post.")
MASTERTON, This Day.
I A definite decision to amalgamate the Wairarapa High School and the Masterton Technical School on the High School ground was' intimated in a letter from the Minister of Education (the Hon. P. Fraser) read at a special meeting of the Wairarapa Secondary k Education Board last night. ' Although several members were opposed to amalgamation, they accepted the Minister's decision' unanimously, and set up a committee to interview Mr. Fraser' With a view.to expediting the erection of the necessary buildings to give effect to the proposals.
"After careful consideration of the matter," said the Minister in his letter; "I have decided upon, the amalgamation of the Wairarapa High School with the" Masterton Technical School." The Minister then went on to refer to the past history of post-primary education in Masterton, and in conclusion stated: "I desire to' say that after carefully reviewing all the facts I am definitely of opinion that Cabinet should be asked to provide complete buildings and equipment for the Technical School on the High School site, the schools being continued under one,head .and con^ ducted as one school under the regulations of combined schools, which are substantially those for. technical high schools,' but providing that free place pupils in the academic courses in the ■ school" shall observe the conditions as for secondary schools,.while those in the technical courses shall be governed by those which apply to technical schools." ..'.■.
