THEFT AND RECEIVING

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day.

Three seamen of the steamer Hertford, who w;ere arrested at Wellington; were charged in the Police Court this morning. Thomas James Conner (20), and Brendon Christopher O'Neill (20) were charged with breaking and entering the shop of Arthur Eady, Ltd., Auckland, on August 19, and stealing musical instruments and money of a total value of £106. James John Hawkins (18) was. charged with receiving from the two before mentioned £3 3s 4d iri money and a banjo, total value £38 3s 4d, knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained.

Hawkins pleaded guilty to receiving and elected to be dealt with sum- ■ marily. The police said that Hawkins, . in a statement, said that on the voyage from London the three accused discussed the question of buying, musical instruments -when they reached New Zealand, but they found they were too expensive. Later the other two men gave him the banjo and money. ' Hawkins was remanded for.a week for sentence. O'Neill and Conner pleaded guilty and were committed to the Supreme 'Court for sentence.
