"DIGGERS'" NIGHT

TIN HAT CLUB

A large number, of "Diggers" attended the monthly "tattoo" of the Tin Hat Club of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association in the R.S.A. Clubrooms last evening. Old acquaintances and the fellowship of the trenches were renewed during the evening, and the popular, rousing old war songs were suiig. ' Before the programme commenced the installation of the chairman for the evening (Mr. "Bill" Smith) took place. This created a good deal of amusement when he was presented with "emblems •of office"—a tin hat, a Mills bomb, and a gas mask. Mr. Smith supplied several humorous stories of war life during the evening, which maintained a breezy atmosphere, throughout. The "Diggers'" orchestra provided the opening number, "Modern India, which was followed by some rapid sketching by Mr. E. R.. Myers, who amazed and amused the audience by his speed" and skill. Mr. T. H. Ashton gave a very interesting lecturette on "Colour in Cinematography," in which he supplied information about the him industry which is not widely known. Other artists who contributed items included the following:—Mr. D. Paton (humour), Mr. Herbert F. Wood (guest, tenor solo), members of the sth Regimental Band (brass octet), Mr. J. Osborne (tenor solo), Messrs. Rogers ahd Redshaw (flute and clarinet duo), Messrs. R. Williams (humour), J, L. McAlister and R. K. Keating (sketch), and L. Morris (humour).
