WOOL POSITION
STATISTICALLY STRONG
Dalgety and Co., London, July 20, report:—"The very much better buying strength of me market goes to show that the statistical position of the staple is extremely sound. The rise in certain descriptions may be due, of course, to a sharp spot demand and the entry into the market of the Russians had an appreciable effect on certain days, resulting in definitely higher prices being paid for some lots than would have been otherwise.
V, "Wer think: also that the - improvement in the situation with regard to the disturbances in France and Belgium- gave more confidence to- the Continental buyers. ' Still; the backbone of, the trade was the .Home section, and here, we understand, a good inroad has been made into the stocks of tops. The position, therefore, looks fairly healthy, and one • satisfactory feature is that the carry-over of wool in the grease in New Zealand for this last season only amounts to 29,530 bales, against 164,411 bales for the 1934-35 " season. In Australia, of course, the carry-over was negligible."
