Mr. W. Gough, ex-Chief Inspector of Scotland Yard, who arrived by the Rangitane from London on Monday, will leave tonight for Auckland where he will spend a few days before proceeding to Australia. At Sydney Mr Gough wiy visit his old friend, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. J. Mackay, and in Melbourne also other old friends. - Dr. D. L. Freeman,, who has; been on the Fields Division of the-Depart-ment of Agriculture at Nelson forsome years past, has been transferred to the Wellington head office staff. Vice-Admiral Geoffrey Blaks, formerly in command of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, who has succeeded Vice-Admiral S. R. Bailey in command of the battle-cruiser squadron, hoisted his'flag in the Admiralty yacht Enchantress last month. He transferred it later to the Hood, tha battle-cruiser flagship. Mr. W. M. Burton, of Auckland, secretary of the Auckland Stock Exchange and of the New Zealand Journalists' Association, has been elected president of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries. The: retiring president was Mr. E. A. Wallace, of Wellington. Professor J. Shelley, who was recently appointed Director of Broadcasting, arrived at Wellington yesterday to attend a meeting of the committee set up by the University at the request of the Government to consider a scheme for adult education. Mr. G. Manning (secretary of the Worker/ Educational Association in Christchurch) also arrived to attend the meeting. Mr. Manning attended the conference called by the Government to discuss Maori affairs, and will interview the Minister of Labour (thai Hon. H. T.
