Some of. the most prominent spring candidates are entered for the Canterbury Stakes, six furlongs, weight-for-age, and the Canterbury Guineas, nine furlongs, for three-year-olds, on Saturday. Custos led Ilium and Grand Boy over seven furlongs in lmin 35£ sec at Randwick this morning. They were ■70 feet out. from the rails, and this was probably the best effort . by ' Custos since he has been in Australia. Gold Rod, who has no engagement on Satlßtfay, went strongly over seven furlongs, coming home well and taking 39Jsec for the last three furlongs. - Rob Roy galloped well throughout; six furlongs in lmin' 21isec. , ... Running the. best seven of the morn- , ing. Bobby, who Was entered, f6r' the Stakes in preference to the Guineas,, just led Friar's, Switch, the i : journey occupying lmin 34$ sec. , ■ ' : .;. : On Parr* went smoothly over .Hires, furlongs in 42|sec, and Siren did half a mile in 52sec. • ' , . ' " Cerne Abbas and Cyrilian moved nicely over five furlongs in lmin Bsec. Loud Applause, and Egmont did seven in lmin, 36sec, the former,possibly going a little better than Egmont. Higheross did the best half-mile, hiitime being 51sec. Silver Ring and" Silver Streak gal- t loped at Rosebery, where the flags were 30 feet out'on the course proper. Silver Ring completed a good gallop with the last, three furlongs taking 38sec. He moved along more , freely than at Warwick Farm last Saturday,. and seems to have shaken off an appearanpe of muscular soreness. Like' Silver Ring, Silver Streak carv ried a light boy, and ran an attractive three furlongs in 373 sec. The- latter'!, work: continues to please -tractt. watchers. ... .-. '
