■■"■ The fortnightly meeting of the Cercle v Francaise was held on Thursday in. the Pioneer Club rooms, Professor F. *F. Miles presiding in-the absence of Mr. Wl-F. CBatham,: president. The pro- , gramme was in charge of ,Mr. J.EButler, who had' obliged the committee by taking an earlier date than, that for which he had originally arranged. Mr. Butler gave an excellent gramophone recital which included many first-class recordings, notably numbers from>"Le Cid," "Androniaque," "Britanmcus, "lies Plaideurs," and "Ees Fourberies de Scapin." Rondo Capriccioso (Saint. Saens), by Mile. Renee Chemet, violiniste, was a specially' .enjoyable number, • as was also' "La Casse-Noisette" (Tschaikbwsky). ' Another outstanding . number was- the "Potpourri. d'Alam Gerbaut," Mile. ■ Yvonne Printemps (diseuse), but perhaps .the;mostrappreciated of ,the items on the: programme were/ scenes from' "Le' r ßarbier :.:de Seville.":.', Mr. Butler introduced •-the yarious'iiumbers, \yith.explanatory re-' marks as required:; •:; '•;';.• ';'. . :, Mme. Bendall' conducted1 thecohver- ?- sation circle,' and Mmc: iFiriiayson- received. The gramophone used was kindly lent by the- Wellington Gramo- . phone. Circle.. M.
