FAIR TO CLOUDY
MILD TEMPERATURES
Special.forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate northerly winds, later freshening-. Weather fair to cloudy and mild. The general forecast for' the -Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for variable winds' at first in the northern, part of the North Island. Otherwise northerly winds will pre-, vail, and- these will become strong about and to the south of Cook Strait, gale force being, reached later in places. The weather will be fair at first in most districts, but further rain between Hawke's Bay and East Cape is probable, and rain will develop on tne West Coast and in the southern districts or the South Island. Temperatures will still be mild! Very high pressure continues to rule to the east of New Zealand, while the depressions moving slowly from the west usually lose intensity: on reaching the Dominion. A very intense depression at present covers the Tasman Sea,1 its centre being at present over Tasmania.; Dull and misty weather continued on Saturday, ' with widespread" rains, and there were.further heavy falls in western districts and in the far north, . moderate to strong north-easterly winds predominating. On Sunday, - however, winds were lighter in force and/ more variable in direction. The weather yesterday was fair in most parts of the country, although there was- some rain on the East Coast of'the North Island and'in a few scattered places in western and far northern districts. Mild and pleasant., temperatures have continued to prevail generally. , • . s Auckland had dull and wet weather on Saturday, heavy rain continuing to fall until Sunday morning, the wind being'a moderate north-easterly. .»It was fair on Sunday; with a light'southwesterly wind, and it was still fair there this morning, '• although it has been rather misty since last night. On both Saturday and Sunday Wellington had mild and dull weather, with-a light to moderate northerly wind. Some light showers fell:on Saturday, and there was steady rain after midnight ■ until .5 a.m. on Sunday, 22 points being recorded. Occasional misty showers fell on Sunday morning, but there was no rain during the afternoon.. Christchurch had a mild day on Saturday, the morning being sunny and the afternoon, when the wind .freshened from the east,, overcast. Rain set in after midnight, a fall of 16 points being recorded. Sunday's weather was fair, although mostly cloudy, a southwesterly breeze changing to a keen easterly during the afternoon. It was cloudy at 9 a.m. today, with a northeasterly breeze. Dunedin's weather was dull on Saturday. In the evening the south-west-erly winds freshened and rain set in about 7 p.m;, 35 points being recorded. It was fine and sunny on Sunday until 2 p.m., but from then onwards there was an increase in cloud and a northeasterly freshened: The weather this morning was cloudy with a light north- i easterly wind.
