Eastbourne, met Johnsonville atKilbirnie Reserve and the spectators were given a • fine - display of fast and open Rugby. The game was even and at no time was* either side 'able to let up. The game had an extra interest because 'both -teams wanted.va. win- to stop being put in the second division next ■season 'and Eastbourne-.after;*.a hard-struggle :gained:;that;.win. -.The Eastbourne win; was- due mainly to-the sure-handling-of-.Crisp.-Hheir,full-pack, andftorfastihahdling byfthe'backs who were weliv supplied with the/ball /..by a good pack of 'forwards;yjohnsmiville played a good open'game with their full-back and centre^three^quarter'doing fine work. Just previous to half-time Berry- raced, away and scored under the .posts. Fleming converted. At half-time the score was Eastbourne 14, Johnsonville 5. -■■•■-:■■ The second spell opened with Eastbourne carrying play into Johnsonville territory but the defence was too strong. Halliwell found an opening in the Eastbourne ranks and slipped through to score well out, the kick missing. It was some time . before Johnsonville again found a gap in the Eastbourne defence but Nossiter did finally and scored. Trenchard converted. This left only one point between the teams and the spectators saw both teams fighting hard to gain the necessary points for victory. Johnsonville were often unfortunate not to gain them but Eastbourne. after putting up a fine defence finally sent Common away to score and Fleming converted, - thus putting up a■■ margin of six points when the final whistle.came.
