WAGERING IN VICTORIA
The increasing popularity of totalisator wagering was amply demonstrated during the racing season that has just closed in Victoria. The aggregate that, passed through the!machines at the'; various . metropolitan" courses reached the huge amouht of £2,204,879. The.increase for the^meetings. at Flemington was £42,43855. at v :Caulfield £60,321 15s, and at-■■' Moonee Valley £23,758 55., There was a decrease of £9609 in the turnover at the Ascot trotting meetings, which was the only instance of a decline. The aggregate increase for the Flemington, Caulfield, Moonee Valley, Williamstown; and Ascot (racing)' courses, ■ reached £152,136. -'.' ; • • :'■'• The 10 per cent, that is deducted for division between charities, -. the clubs, and the totalisator company, together with the fractional money handled, was in the vicinity of £220,000. ■ A comparison of the. figures shows the following:— ■ . ■-.■■'■ ' :'.' 1934-33. -.1033-30. .....
