HOGGETS SOAR

A:medium entry of sheep came forward at the Feilding sale on ■ Friday. The New Zealand Farmers' Cooperative Distributing Co., Ltd., report that fat sheep were again in short supply, and prices showed a further sharp rise. The offering of hoggets was of exceptionally good quality, and values were the highest realised so far this season. In the cattle section, dairy cows and heifers sold readily, with a slight firming in prices for best sorts. Beef cattle were not so numerous as at the last sale, values showing a rise of from 5s to 7s 6d per head. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report: A light entry of all classes of stock was yarded, the sale being the smallest held for some time. Owing to the short supply of sheep in the fat sheep section, there was an extremely buoyant sale. The entry in this department comprised chiefly ewes, which realised up to 35s 6d, values over all appreciating from 2s to 3s per head. The store sheep yarding consisted mainly of hoggets, which were offered to a keen bench of buyers. The bidding in this section was very animated, and there was a total clearance with values well in favour of venders. . Some very choice lines of ewe hoggets were penned, one pen on account of Mr. J. C. Kennedy, of Dannevirke, recording the top price of the season of 40s. Fat cattle were penned in small numbers and values were well up to late rates. A lighter entry of dairy stock came forward, and here there was a hardening of values with a total clearance. There were practically no storecattle yarded.
