OVERSEAS VISITORS
PROFESSIONAL ADDRESSES
There ,was a, large attendance of members from . all parts of the Dominion at .the annual conference of the;. New.* Zealand: Dental Association, which was'opened today at the Masonic Hall, The Terrace.' : :r Mr.' "W.R. Reyburn, of Auckland (president), presided^ and introduced the visiting clinicians, Professor A. Amies, ;Dean: of the Faculty of Dental Science, Melbourne University i and Messrs. C. H. Down and Hunt, associate ■professors of the Melbourne University': School of Dentistry, who 6riefly- returned thanks for the warm welcome extended to them. The "business .today will consist. of addresses-and'demonstrations of professional interest Igiven by the visitors, who;will also give further demonstra-. tions'duririgthe conference, which will continue until Friday. .The annual dinner will Hake place at the Royal Oak Hotel on-Wednesday evening, and the annual /general meeting will' be held on, Thursday night. The annual report states that 27 new members, were elected during the year.: Student 4 membership,' it was added, continued .to be an active link between the association and future graduates; and. the large number of hew members was definitely attributable 'tor that . link. Every eligible student ,at: the Dental School was at present" a'student member of the organisation. The "New Zealand Dental" Journal" continued.to maintain its high standard as a professional publication. The work of the editor, Professor Burt, was outstanding. The association continued its active interest in the affairs of the Otago School of Dentistry, and had offered an annual prize of £5 ss-for the best essay on, some chosen dental subject written by a final-year student. Mr. .T. A. Hunter, C.8.E., an ..honorary life member, was appointed-as a delegate to the Empire dental meeting in London, and to the meeting ■.. of the International Dental Federation. The executive council had been particularly fortunate in being able to have Mr. Hunter's attendance at these meetings, where matters of interest to individual associations within the Empire .would be discussed. The association recently had the opportunity, through the president, of welcoming.Dr. Weston A. Price, a distinguished member' of the dental scientific world, to New Zealand. Dr. Price would later return to this country to conduct some investigation into the Maori life of the Dominion.Knocked over by a motor-car at the corner of; Hawkestone Street and Tina- j kori Road this morning Violet Neeci-i ham,, aged 5, of 184 ' Tinakori Road, suffered .a^fractured left thigh and .shock., She was removed to hospital.! by'theFree.Ambulance.
