PUBLIC NOTICE. RETRACTION: ! ' From the ( , - | "NEW ZEALAND ILLUSTRATED SPORTING AND ! DRAMATIC REVIEW " • AS PUBLISHED IN THE ISSUE OF THAT PAPER DATED AUGUST 12, 1936.1 IMPORTATION OF ORANGES T\HE former proprietors of this paper, in the issue of June 10 last, published an -*• article under the tide "Fruit Follies," which imputed that the local importers o£ oranges made large and unfair profits at the expense o£ the health and welfare of the community generally. To this article the Auckland Fruit Importers' Association took strong exception, and two of the largest importers of oranges in Auckland each issued writs against the former proprietors o£ this paper claiming substantial damages for libel. ' . The present proprietors and the publishers are, of course, is no way responsible for articles which formerly appeared, but we take this opportunity of dissociating ourselves from any . policy which libels old and reputable firms, as did the article under review. We are satisfied, after a thorough investigation o£ the facts that the local importers of oranges conduct this business on. fair aud proper lines. Iho profits of those firms from the importation and sale of oranges is so small that it can in no way be suggested that the Auckland importing firms have made anything in the nature o£ the unfair and iniquitous profits attributed to them in the article. v We understand that regret lias already been expressed by those formerly associated with tins paper that the article should have ever appeared, and an unqualified apology and withdrawal o£ the statements has been made to the importers concerned. i | ,
