Special forecast for Wellington:— Strong northerly winds to westerly winds, rising: to gale force at times. Weather fair, but occasionally cloudy, and possibly some brief showers. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for moderate to strong north r westerly to westerly winds, still reaching gale force in exposed positions. Winds, however, will back to the southwest in parts of the South Island. The weather will continue to be changeable and squally with rain at times in districts with, a westerly aspect, and the rain will extend occasionally to scattered parts of eastern districts. Temperatures will still be mild. While an anti-cyclone is situated to the north, pressure of a westerly type continues to dominate the meteorological situation, a series of rather intense depressions passing to the south. Moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds have prevailed and have reached gale force at times, especially about and to the south of Cook Strait. The weather has been changeable and unsettled, with scattered rain in districts with a westerly aspect, and also over the northern half of the North Island and in the far south. The East Coast, on the other hand, to the south of East Cape has had mainly fair and mild weather. It was fair in Auckland yesterday morning; but the afternoon was dull and showery conditions have prevailed since last evening, 15 points of rain being recorded up to 9 a.m. today. A north-westerly breeze had changed to a west-south-west wind by this morning. Wellington's weather has been fine, but with a strong north-westerly wind, and 7.9 hours of bright sunshine were recorded yesterday.
