MATUA REPORTS

DUE AUCKLAND THURSDAY

En route from England on her maiden voyage, the Union Company's new motor-vessel Matua will arrive at Auckland at 6.30 a.m., on Thursday, according to radio advice received from the ship.

The Matua has started her role as a fruit-carrying vessel right from ,the beginning of her career, as she arrived at Rarotonga on August 2 and loaded fruit in the Cook Islands group before resuming her voyage. After a fortnight's stay at Auckland she will commence her regular Island running, leaving Auckland on August 27 for Nukualofa, Apia, and Suva, returning to Auckland on September 9.

, Built for the Islands trade, the Matua is specially equipped for the carriage of fruit. Four of the 'tween deck compartments and three holds are insulated and fitted with the latest system of ait* coolers, fans, and air circulating trunks. She has fonr decks, including promenade and boat decks, and accommodation is provided for about 40 passengers. The vessel's tonnage is 4166 gross, and she is built to Lloyd's Al class. Driven by twinscrew Sulzer two-cycle single-acting Diesel engines, she is very fast, arid on her trials"her maximum speed was slightly over 17 knots.
