STRONG WINDS

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Strong north-westerly to westerly

winds, rising to gale force at times.

Weather mainly fair, but change-

able and. occasional rain possible.

The general forecast, issued at noon today for the Dominion as a whole, is for moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds, gale force being reached at times about and to the south of Cook Srait. The weather will be changeable, with rain at times in districts with a westerly aspect, and the rain will extend occasionally to parts of eastern districts. Temperatures will be mild.

During the weekend, while pressure was relatively high over the northern part of New Zealand, a series of westerday depressions continued to pass in the south. As a consequence, moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds have prevailed, and these have been accompanied by rain at times in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far south. In eastern areas, on the other hand, the. weather has been mainly fine. ' Temperatures have been mild or moderate.

Auckland had a moderate southwesterly to westerly wind on Saturday, the weather being fair although mostly cloudy. Some showers fell early on Sunday morning, but most of the day was fine with a moderate westerly wind. At 9 a.m. today it was cloudy with a gentle wind from the north-east.

Wellington had fair,but rather cloudy weather on Saturday, 6.6 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The north-weslarly wind increased to gale force during the afternoon. Nine points of rain fell during a heavy downpour between 11 and 11.15 p.m. Sunday was fine and mild with a fresh northwesterly wind, 8.3 hours of bright sunshine being recorded.

In Christchurch it was fine on Saturday morning, but the afternoon was overcast, the wind being a light one from the east-north-east. Sunday was sunny and mild with very little wind.

Dunedin on Saturday had a dull day with a light northerly wind. Light rain fell during the night, but Sunday's weather was fair to fine with a fresh wind from the west or southwest.
