In the Waiwetu Club championships yesterday R. A. Spedding, the young player from Rotorua who played against the Englishmen when they toured 'New Zealand recently, was right on top form, and caused a big surprise by defeating last year's champion R. Garbett, 8 and 6; H. C. Hogan beat W. E. Anderson, 4 and 2; C. J. Paton beat W. N. Taylor, 4 and 3.
The bogey competition/played in conjunction with the championships resulted as follows:—
R. A. Spedding (8), 7 up; L. L,. Mitchell (10), 4 up; A. Lewis (12), 1 up; C. Halford (17), 1 up. Points for the Winter Cup were won as follows:—Spedding, 3 points; Mitchell, 2 points; Lewis and Halford, 1 point each.
'The fourball bogey was won by N. J. Sherwood (5) andL. L.Mitchell (10). 7 up, followed by J. G. Newell (18) and C. Halford (17), 5 up; J. Jackson (17) and J. Beasley (18), 3 up; N. O. Maitland (8) and A. P. Smith (10), 2 up; T. P. Davis (8) and E. C. Swinson (9), 1 up. Handicap Readjustments.—Spedding to 8-6; Mitchell to 11-8.
Entries for the senior and junior foursome championship close on Saturday, August Ss2, and the first round takes place on Sunday, 23rd. For the purpose of this competition, handicaps of 15 and under class as seniors;
