SOME SURPRISE RESULTS
VICTORY CUP ROUND IN FIRST B DIVISION
Results generally in the First A Division Association lootball championship series played on Saturday were not according to expectations. On the Basin Reserve Diamond forced a 3-all draw upon Waterside, the local Chatham Cup hope, after being a goal ahead of them at half-time. Hospital were expected to defeat Institute Old Boys at Porirua, but hardly by the score of 7 goals to 0. At Seatoun the suburban team, who are at the top of the championship table, scraped home from Swifts, at the bottom, by the odd goal in five, and Petone, playing on their home ground, improved their position with a mildly surprising 3-1 victory over Marist. First B Division teams were engaged in the first round of the Victory Cup competition. Technical Old Boys beat Nada 4-2, Island Bay beat Onslow 7-2, Lower Hutt beat Miramar Rangers 3-2 after being a goal down at the change-over, and Scottish Wanderers won by default from Rovers.
Most of the games in both divisions were ragged and uninspiring, partly because of a tricky, northerly wind and slippery grounds. -
