YEARLINGS AT NEWMARKET
(From "The Post's" Representative.) ~ LONDON, July 4. A,three days' yearling sale at Newmarket this week has registered-a turnover of 91,777 guineas, showing an increase of 4987 guineas on last year's figures. ; The highest price was 5500 guineas given by the Newmarket trainer T. Leader for a bay fllly by Fairway out of Nun's Veil. This filly was one of the nine lots offered from the National Stud, the total yield being 15,190 guineas. The next best was the bay filly by Caerleon, out of Sister Stella, who was sold to Mr. Marcus Marsh for 3500 guineas. Lord Monck gave 2200 guineas for a brown colt by Cameronian, the; Two Thousand Guineas and Derby winner, out of Sword Play, from the same consignment. AGA KHAN AS VENDER. Nineteen yearlings submitted by H.H. Aga Khan occasioned keen competition. The great size to which his stud has grown is shown by the fact that he is now a vender on a bigsscale. From this batch Mr. J. L. Jarvis bought Faris 11, a colt by Dastur out of Firouze Eanee, for 3000' guineas; and Mr. R. Day went to 1900 guineas for Ramtapa, a colt' by Rustom Pasha out of Sultan Ranee. Mr. F. Butters gave 185^ guineas for Stafarella, a bay filly by Solario from Mirawala. N. Scobie, on behalf of Sir Charles Hyde, bought the Duke of "Westminster's racing-like grey filly by Tetratema put of Bucharest (a Buchan mare) for 1900 guineas. ' Top px-ice on the last day was paid for a half-brother to the Ascot Gold Cup winner Quashed and Thankerton. This was Lady Barbara Smith's colt by Foxlaw out of Verdict,, who was bought by F. S. Butters, acting on behalf of Lord Portal, for 4000 guineas. He is a big bay with tremendous quarters, plenty of quality, and is an ideal type of Cup horse in the making. The same trainer acquired another Foxlaw colt out of Celandine for Lord Portal at 3300 guineas from the batch submitted by Lord St. Davids. From the same consignment T. L. Jarvis, the Newmarket trainer, paid 3100 guineas for a chestnut filly by Gainsborough, the war-time triple crown winner, out of Dame Caution. ■ FILLY BY MANNAMEAD.. . The first yearling offered for sale by Lord Astor's sire Mannamead was sent up by Mr. Bruce Rogers, and was hot a dear purchase to Mr. J. S. Austen at 660 guineas. She is an allquality filly from the . Sunder mare Tondeleyo, dam of the good winners Mentondy and Roi Tondel. Mrs. Corlette Glorney secured a good-looking Noble Star filly from Philaris Girl for 810 guineas. R. J. Cplling bought a shapely daughter of Black Watch and Cynosure for 190 guineas,- which is well . within her value. Fred Darling bought a bay colt by Limelight for 360 guineas, and Mr. Livock secured a quality bay filly by Cameronian from a Captain Cuttle mare for 900 guineas.
Competition was keen for a halfsister to Feola and Rola, by Cameronian out of Foxlaw's sister Aloe. From a first bid of 1000 guineas tendered by Major Holliday she went to 2700 guineas, and was knocked down to Mr. W. Livock. a veterinary surgeon. RoJn made 1650 guineas as a yearling and Fooia was sold for 3000 guineas at the same age.
