The Presbyterian Club held its championships from Lyall Bay. bathing sheds. -.■..
Five juniors faced the starter in the junior championship, the length of the course being 3J miles'. The condition of the .Course, was good,.though.the wind and sand along the beach road were troublesome, as .also was "the lupin patch behind the golf .links. . HolmesMiller was first man home, after having led from "the start. He made a fast pace and maintained it throughout. His time was 23min. ■R. Tait -was second, about 150 . yards behind, his time being 23min 24sec, and M.'Jardine was third. ' ■ •■
Twen,ty-three seniors .contested the senior championship, the distance being 10,000 metres.: From the start Cowan, Armstrong,' and Congalton set a stiff pace, and after about 880 yards were leading the next man, Comrie, by. 30 yards. A gap of 15 yards-separ-ated Comrie and . the- main group, among whom Clayton, Pumfrey, and Williams were running well. At the golf links' the leaders had increased the gap to over .70 yards, whilst Clay 7 ton, Dick, Pumfrey, Arcus, and Wit liams had moved up. The field was stringing out, and by the time the hill was reached the leaders had disapjpeared over the top and were going along Monorgan Road. When the runners reached the hill the second time the fast pace was beginning to tell and many showed signs of weariness. Cowan first broke on the hill and fell behind, whilst Armstrong took the lead from- Congalton and maintained a fast pace down Broadway and through Freyberg .Street home, to win from Congalton, the second man, by about 100■ yards in the sound time of 38min 36sec. Congalton's time was 38min 55sec, and these two finished about 2iriin ahead of the next man, Cowan. The first , ten placings were:—Armstrong, 38m' 365, 1; Congalton, 38m 555, 2; Cowan,.4om 455, 3; Arcus, 41m 245, 4; S. Dick, 41m 555, 5; Pumfrey, 42m 245, 6; Clayton, 42m 58s, 7; Papps, 43m 3s, 8; Williams and Norton, 43m 30s, dead heat, 9. The sealed- handicap for the Webb Cup was held in conjunction, with the championship. Armstrong was also the winner of this, with Congalton second and Arcus third. .
After the race the runners, friends, and supporters of the club, with members of the •Harrier Sub-committee, were the guests of the club captain, Mr. R. D. Moore, in the Maranui Lifesaving Club rooms.' -
