"MUST BE MAINTAINED"
THE BRITISH NATIONS
NAVY JUSTIFIED
(Received August 6, 1.45 p.m.)
ORILLA (Ontario), August 5,
"The integrity of the British Commonwealth of Nations must be maintained and her trade routes must be kept open," declared LorS Snell, the Labour leader in the House of Lords, in. an address at the Canadian Institute of Economics and. Politics.
"Sufficient naval power must •be maintained to enable England to import necessities. British foreign policy has two main motives: Firstly, there must be no.war,in which Britain >s engaged, unless any of her major interests are threatened by another Power; and, secondly, she must seek to avoid-war by collective security and by honouring her word when it is given. If the Empire becomes a thing of the' counting-house and the ledgeonly, it will pass away."
