TRAINS HELD UP
PETROL WAGON DERAILED

PALMERSTON N.,' This Day. Rail traffic today was disorganised until 10 a.m. as the result of a 36-ton petrol wagon on a goods train leaving Palmerston North for the north at 1 a.m. breaking an axle and being derailed near Halcombe. The usual procedure is to unload a derailed wagon and jack it off the rails, but the petrol prevented this being done. Both the south-bound expresses were held up. at Marton to enable the passengers to be transhipped in daylight.. The main trunk Limited expresses were both three and a quarter hours late passing here. Seven trains were affected by the accident. The wagon derailed was replaced on the line by a crane brought from the north. ' ; ■ '
The Limited arrived at Wellington at 12.45 p.m. instead of 9.41 a.m.
