(Received August 6, 10.45 a.m.),
ATHENS, August 5. With the King's approval martial law has been proclaimed by the Premier, General Metaxas, and the Chamber: of Deputies has besn dissolved.
The measures are attributed to the discovery, of a Communist plot. Another source says that they were necessary to counteract the calling of a general- strike. ..
-, An Athens journal states that an official, explaining the Government's action, declared that the country was faced wjth an abnormal situation, as it was on'the eve of ■ a seditious movement fostered by Communist propaganda. Aiming at disaffection in the army and the spreading of a spirit of anarchy, and at taking advantage of anarchy, squabbles, among political partie*. imd an unbridled Press campaign, '^.^^nmunists were preparing to i overthrow the social regime and break up Greek society, towards which the first step was to have been -the present strike. :
