UNEMPLOYMENT IN BRITAIN

RUGBY, August 4.
As forecast by the Minister of Labour in the House of Commons last week, the numbers of unemployed last month were down by 50,000.
The Ministry of Labour estimates that at July 20 the number of insured persons in employment in Great Britain, exclusive of agricultural workers, was approximately 10,895|000. This was 63,000 more than the month before. The numbers of unemployed persons were 1,652,072, comprising 1,285,805 wholly unemployed, 296,007 temporarily laid off, and 70,260 normally in casual employment. The total was 50,604 less than at June 22, 1936, and 3206869 less than at July 22, 1935.
