ILLUMINATED FOUNTAINS
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Now that the railway station is almost completed, it would extend further the beautification of Wellington if there were erected a fine fountain, to have its water/sprays illuminated at night. The fountain at Christchurch is one of the finest sights at night that thousands haye witnessed. Surely there are would-be" donors wh"o would come forward with cash to have erected''a fine fountain'where many thousands of t local residents and oversea visitors' could view it with delight: A; most suitable spot is now available in the triangle lawn opposite the Government Buildings. Another suitable place is that adjoining the ladies' rest rooms in Courteriay Place. Wellington, with its extension of very fine buildings and its general progress, will, soon be classed as a most beautiful city. But there are a few further additions to our surroundings needed, especially in the city, to achieve this. Christchurch is undoubtedly the' most beautiful city in. New Zealand, principally on account of its parks, fountains, and its river Avon and its general lay-out.—l am,' etc., ' , W.F.CLARKE.
