Feeling reference was made by the president (Mr. R. W. McVilly) at last nifhtjf meeting of toe New Sealand Amateur Athletic ' Association council to the death at Palmerston North of Mr. E. G. Sutherland, a former field events champion. Both on the field and off the field, said Mr. McVilly,'the late Mr. Sutherland was a good snprtsman and a gentlertfan. He was, one who did very much to put New Zealand on the map in the field of sport when he was a competitor. As a mark of respect members stood and observed a short silence.
Sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. J. A. • Thomson, a member of the Athletic Rugby Football Club, who played sixteen times as a Wellington representative between 1879 and 1882, was expressed by' the Wellington Rugby Union-last night.
