MR. JOSEPH POTTS
Mr. Joseph Potts, of Brooklyn, died suddenly last night, in his eighty fourth year.
The late Mr. Potts was born in Lanercost, Cumberland, England, and educated at Croft House, Brampton. In his younger days he was a wellknown cricketer in the North of England and was actively associated with many progressive movements. He was prominently connected with the Co-operative Wholesale Society in England, where at one period he was manager of one of the branches in Cumberland. He landed in New Zealand on July 4, 1911, and settled with his wife and family in Wellington. During the-war he was an active worker at the Town Hall, in connection with the regular dispatching of goods to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. After the war he,started business on his own account as a grocer in Madras Street, Christchurch,. retiring in 1924 In company with Mrs. Potts, he returned to the Old Country for a trip and to renew old associations. On his return he settled in Brooklyn, since when ho has lived a retired life The late Mr. Potts was of a kindly disposition and of sterling character well respected by a large circle of friends and acquaintances in Wellington and Christchurch. >He is survived, by his widow and son, Mr. Bertram Potts, of Miramar.
The interment will take place at Karon Cemetery tomorrow afternoon.
