PACKING OF FRUIT
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Kindly allow me a small space in your columns to voice my complaints regarding fhe inferior quality of some of the fruit and vegetables sold in the local friut markets. I am only one of many trying to eke out an honest living in the fruit and vegetable line. As everyone knows, the turnover on these two lines is very small at any time, and therefore we cannot afford any losses through inferior packing. Last week I bought a case of oranges and upon opening I discovered six and a half dozen rotten ones and six dozen good ones. The same thing applied to a sack of 'cabbages; On opening the sack I discovered four nicesized cabbages on the top and the remainder were small and inferior. Now, Sir, I for one do not think this is a fair deal to the small retailers, and it is high time some steps should be taken by the authorities.—l am, etc., ROY TODD.
