<•.-«. -TIMARU, July 31. The grand national ski meeting at Mount Cook commenced today in perfect weather, snow condition* bcifle ideal. The weather changed' in th* afternoon, and the programme had to be altered. The only events contest-' ed were the men's and women's "slalom championships and the~novice'eventi. Results were as follows:—' Men's Slalom— C. Straubel (Christchurch Ski Clubh 42 l-ssec and 42 1-5 sec, 1; B. Saville (Windwhistle Winter Sports Club), 37 3-ssec_ and 48sec, 2: W. EUiotT(OUgo), 53sec and 42 2-3 sec, 3« Women's Slalom.—Miss P. Brewer (Duncdin), 66sec and 5d 2-ssec, 1; ft. Lansell,- (Melbourne), 89sec and Miec, 2; M. M'tler, 90sec and 65sec, 3. Th« sports were well patronised, about 50 being quartered at the Ball Hut. R * ; '
