TOUR OF SPRINGBOKS

PROPOSED BOYCOTT

DENIAL BY CHIEFTAIN

(B>* Telegraph.—Press Association.)

GISBORNE, This Day.

A denial of a Rotorua report that he supported .the Arawas in their desire to boycott the Springbok tour, was made by Henare Ruru, a leading chieftain .in the Poverty Bay district, who stated that he had insisted throughout that the proper method of dealing with grievances was through the Maori Advisory Board. He had been approached by the Arawas at Waitara last month, but he then intimated that he was unprepared to support any action which might embarrass the board. From ■ other quarters it was learned today that a canvass of Maori footballers in Tairaahiti disclosed a definite opposition to the suggested boycott.
