SCOTS COLLEGE

PRESENTATION OF LIBRARY

In the presence -of his Excellency the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, and Lady Galway, the presentation of a large and valuable library was made to Scots College yesterday afternoon by Mrs. Alderson a^ a memorial to her son. Their Excellencies were received at the college by the principal (Mr. J. R.. Sutcliffe). Mrs. Sutcliffe, and members of the staff and Board of Governors. The pipe band, under Lieutenant G. Bidding, and the guard of honour, under Captain V. F. O. Eraser, and Lieutenant G. E. Vercoe, were inspected by his Excellency. The presentation took place in the library, where Mrs. Alderson thanked their Excellencies for attending, and expressed the hope that the boys at the college would receiye'the greatest possible benefit and pleasure from the library which she was presenting to them. She hoped that the library would fill an important part in the lives of the boys while they were at school. The principal said that in his opinion nothing was more important to a school than a library, although it was generally the practice to add a library to a college more or less as an afterthought. His Excellency then declared the library open, and unveiled a portrait' of the late Mr. Alderson.
