DOUBT EXPRESSED
SWEEPSTAKE WINNER
NOT IN PRIZE-LIST
;Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, This Day.
Some doubt seems to have arisen whether Mr. Arthur Ernest Johnstone, the young man who was reported on Friday to have won £30,000 in the Irish Free State art union, has been as fortunate as was indicated. The sweep on the Derby run on May 27. was drawn at Dublin on May 28, and a detailed list of prize-winners shows twelve ticket-holders who drew Mahmoud, the winning horse, for £30,000 each. Johnstone's name is not included in the list, one of the prizes going to Ireland, two to Europe, and nine to the United States. Nor is it included in the list of winners of smaller amounts. If Johnstone lias won £30,000 he must apparently have done so in a lottery other than the Irish sweepstake on the Derby. Johnstone, according to his employer, who states he made-a small advance, left for Timaru on Saturday, and in his absence doubts cannot be resolved.
