ACCIDENT TO M.P.

A new road which includes the city of Leeds's first completely-silent traffic zone, was opened last month by Sir Edwin Airey. The road is one of the engineering features embodied in the new £400,000 Queen's Hotel which is being built for the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company in City Square. To prevent residents o£ the hotel being disturbed by traffic passing underneath for a distance of 100 ft the road surface consists of 4jn deep rubber blocks cemented together by a rubber solution.

Mr. A. C. A. Sexton (Country Party, Franklin) met with an accident this morning. When coming down Bowen Street on his way to Parliament Buildings he slipped on the pavement and broke his leg, also injuring the hip of his amputated leg. First aid was rendered by the Postmaster-General '.the Hon. F. Jones) and Mr. C. H. Burnett (Government, Tauranga) who were also walking down Bowen Street. An ambulance was called and Mr. Sexton, who was suffering a great deal, was taken to hospital. Mr. Sexton had a leg amputated as the result of injuries in the Great War.
