LONDON, July 24.

The Balham and Tooting by-election j caused by the resignation of Sir Alfred Butt, following the report of the Budget tribunal, resulted:— Mr. Donald (Conservative) 14,959 | Mr. Miller (Labour) 12.889 Only 49 per cent, of the electorate voted. The East Grinstead by-election, fol- i lowing the elevation of the Conservative member, Sir H. S. Cautley, to the Peerage, resulted:— Colonel Stephenson Clarke (Conservative) 22.2071 Mr. A. Millett (Labour) 5,708 j At last year's General Election the voting in Balham and Tooting was: Sir Alfred Butt (Conservative), 22,013; W. D. Lloyd (Labour), 12.960.

The result of the East Grinstead poll at the last General Election was: Sir H. S. Cautley (Conservative), 29,440Mr. S. Seuffcrt (Socialist), 8097.
