BISHOP-ELECT
SUNDAY'S CEREMONY CONSECRATION AT ST. PAUL'S The consecration of Archdeacon H. St. Barbe Holland as Anglican Bishop of Wellington takes place on Sunday next at 10.30 a.m. in St. Paul's ProCathedral. The Archbishop of New Zealand, Dr. Averill, will consecrate the new Bishop, and he will be attended by six Bishops from other New Zealand dioceses, the Bishop of Waikato, who is abroad, being the only absentee. In addition, there will also be present the Bishop of Jerusalem, who is visiting New Zealand at the present time. Between 40 and 50 clergy from the diocese will be attending the service. As space in the Pro-Cathedral is limited, admission for the public will bo by ticket only, and all the available seating accommodation has al- ! ready been allotted. i Proceedings start with the Com[munion Service. At a certain point in this the Bishop-elect is' presented by two of the Bishops present to the Archbishop, and he then takes the oath of obedience. After the Litany has been recited by one oC t the (Bishops, eight questions are put to the Bishop-elect by the Archbishop. jUp to that point in the ceremony the Bishop-elect has not worn full episcopal habit, but he is now vested in full, the choir singing "Veni Creator .Spiritus" over him as this is done. The Archbishop then delivers to the new Bishop a Bible, and, the actual consecration ceremony . being completed, the remainder of- the Communion Service is proceeded with. Prior to the presentation of the Bishopelect to the Archbishop, a sermon will be preached by Canon Percival James. ; The enthronement service, which takes place on Monday evening at 3 o'clock, is not such a long one as the consecration service, and a special ser|Vice for the occasion >has been compiled by Canon James. At this latter service the newly-consecrated Bishop will preach. In addition to the other Bishops who will be present on Monday evening, between 60 and 70 of the clergy of the diocese will be attending, more being able to get away from their duties on the Monday than on the Sunday.
