CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT

NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day
• The lines that would be taken bythe special committee appointed by the Government to investigate the position of the fruit' trade in New Zealand were explained today by the chairman, Mr.' Alfred Coieman, of Stratford. "The committee will hold the inquiry at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, end Dunedin, and the centres of the various fruitgrowing districts," said Mr. Coieman, "and evidence will be heard from people interested in the growing, importation, and marketing of fruit and hops. "The order of reference is extremely wide, and the committee will investigate all the. aspects of the wholesale and retail trade and of the fruit import trade, including that of citrus fruits, the , provision of cool storage, grading, packing, standardisation, and the transport to markets, in fact all matters related to the fruit trade, will be included in the scope of investigation, which will be made pursuant to the provisions of the Board of Trade Act."
Mr. Coleman is a member of the Court of Review, and will be sitting with that court during the week lo complete outstanding matters, but as soon as he has finished that work the inquiry into the fruit trade will begin. It has not yet been decided where the first sitting of the committee will be held.
