GREYHOUND & HARE

A THRILL AT THE TATTOO

' A hare and a.greyhound provided an unexpected and .unrehearsed thrill for the spectators at a recent tattoo perfon—«*lce. Both; were unaware of the other's .presence. Hence a highlydramatic sporting situation, says the "Morning Post." -

The spectators were on the tiptoe of excitement when the hare was seen to dash madly across the brilliantlylighted arena. It was heading straight for the greyhound, which at this time was idling its time on. the outskirts of the Bannockburn display.

The glamour of this cameo of Scottish history was suddenly subordinated to the hare's rash entry. There were the essentials of a thrilling coursing event. ' It was thought impossible for the greyhound to miss the' sport. The hare was hypnotised by the glare of the searchlights and scared by the crackling of musketry and the general activity of the soldier-actors. : : .

It was rushing inevitably and tragically to its end —into the mouth of the greyhound—when the Bannockburn episode was, at the most dramatic period for the hare, "blacked out.'* Many spectators uttered a sigh of relief. But the majority felt they had been deprived of a first-class sporting contest. ' .■_-.....

When, a few seconds later, the arena was again flooded with light, both greyhound and hare were missing. Was the hare missing permanently? Perhaps that question will never betanswered.
