SPECIAL DUTIES
POST FOR SIR CECIL DAY
The .early appointment of Sir Cecil Day, .formerly Official Secretary to the Governor-General of New Zealand, to. the staff of the High Commissioner in London for special duty in connection with League of Nations .Affairs, was indicated by the Prime Minister (the ,Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) at the weekend.
"We fully recognise the valuable service that Sir Cecil has given to New Zealand," Mr. Savage said. "Arrangements are being made for him to join the staff of the High Commissioner in London and he will have special duties."in, assisting the future High Commissioner, "Mr. W. J. Jordan, in the affairs of: the League of Nations at Geneva. :' New Zealand hopes to secure a 'seat on the Council of the League ,in- September, and considerable'work'is: likely to result from the responsibilities of that office. Sir Cecil should'be ol great assistance both to the new High Commissioner and to the Government in this new sphere."
Judging from the London Telephone Directory ( Smith is still the commonest name, .followed by Jones, Taylor, and Brown. The Smiths occupy 17£ pages.
