AMATEUR WRESTLERS
SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME
At a meeting of the executive committee of the Wellington Wrestling Association ' last week •it was decided to institute a form of scholarship eligible to all amateur wrestlers registered to the Dominion Wrestling. Union through the Wellington Association. A number of boys, with a. limit of ten, will be selected from the various affiliated gymnasiums and will undergo a course of specialised instruction in amateur wrestling and physical training under a fully qualified instructor
In order;that the association may proceed .with, this highly commendable scheme officials of the various gymnasiums have been asked to submit the names ■of any of their pupils whom they think- worthy -of the association's consideration. During the period of scholarship' training. the 'trainees will be entirely under the control of the association which will reserve the" right to terminate' any course of instruction at its discretion.
•Entries-for the Wellington junior wrestling championships will close with the secretary of the local association next Saturday at noon. Among the conditions of entry are the following: The entrants must be- registered; there will be an entrance fee which will be forfeited if the entrant fails to. compete for. other than medical reasonsthe bouts will, be of three three-minute rounds; the-classes will be as follows: Under 16 years of age>7slb, 851b, 951bi and 1051b; over 16 years, Bst, Bst 61b 9st; 9st 91b lOst 71b, list 61b, 12st 71b' and heavyweight; all weights of Bst and upwards will be open only to boys who have not previously wrestled in a senior or junior championship, and have been receiving instruction for not more than 12 months. , -
Entrants failing to make the required weight on the.first day of the tournament will not be allowed to transfer to a heavier class and will forfeit their entrance fees.
