DEARER MUTTON
AS FROM MONDAY
RISE OF 1D PER LB
Master butchers have today received advice from meat wholesale suppliers that the price of mutton will be advanced, by Id per.pound as from Monday next.
.It is understood that there is a short supply, of stock coming forward, arid that .phenomenally high prices. are being paid for sheep in the country districts. One of the reasons put forward for the shortage is that exports during the past season have been heavy, and that, with the high prices ruling for wool, has caused farmers to hold back stock from sale.
On inquiry it was stated by a representative of the Master Butchers' Association that butchers will accordingly have to" pass on the increase in price of mutton to. the general public as from Monday next.
