MAUI POMARE HOLD-UP
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I would like, to comment on the Minister of Labour's action in running round the town after, two; members of the crew of the Maui Pomare. It is simply amazing.
If an officer is ' held responsible for the discipline and efficient'working of a vessel why should he be sacrified to appease the wrath of two members of the crew who have no responsibility? The Minister's decision in this case is not in. accord \yith the Minister of Public Works's action in. the Motueka j dispute, where he: hot only demanded [the men to withdraw their claims but also to tender a humble apology—-in other words "rubhjng it in." : Discipline cannot be. maintained unless the executive officers are upheld in their authority, and it is time the disputescommittee of the Merchant Service Guild "and Marine Engineers' ' Jri^' stitute took action. The Government claim iOf disorganising (arrangements cannot be upheld, and shows not Imperial unity but rather the pettiness of party politics where they are arranging to honours an individual whom the previous Government had , discredited.—! am, etc.,
FAIR PLAY.
