BRITISH SAILORS' SOCIETY
An excellent concert was given at the rooms of the British Sailors' Society on Thursday by Miss D. J. Spinks and party to a. packed" house of enthusiastic seamen and friends. v The programme was of a varied nature and, owing to its length, no encores were allowed. Pianoforte solos were contributed by Sheila .Green, Marion Warner, Miriam Rubin, Shirley Allen, and Miss Spinks, and vocal solos and duets by Patricia Liardet, Sheila Cochrane, Violet Roberts, and Chas. Dixon. A humorous " sketch entitled "Father's Voice," created a great deal of merriment, as did the sketch "The Haunted House." The Gipsy Interlude by the four Romanys was another popular item.. A duet in character by Miss Roberts and Chas. Dixon entitled "The Old Folks" was the gem of the evening. The programme concluded with a oneact play, "A Day in a Library," by the company. At the conclusion a vote of thanks to Miss Spinks was carried with acclamation, supper was served by the workers, and the evening brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem. Miss Flora Mac Donald was the accompanist.
