"POTTED" GOALS
A LOCAL COINCIDENCE
When Athletic in a recent match with Wellington placed three field goals to their credit, discussions arose jas to whether there had been any j similar achievement in senior Rugby iin Wellington. Some old-timers were inclined to the belief that the dropkicking of three goals in a local senior match had been accomplished many years previously. Mr. A. F. Wiren was one of that opinion,- and he believed that there was an achievement. of the kind in 1883. Sure enough, the records of that year's Rugby in Wellington show that three' goals were "potted" in a game, ;and it is a coincidence that they won a game for. .Athletic against Wellington, as in the recent match. Jimmy Wood, Jack King, and J. T. Dumbell were the! players to dropkick the goals in the 1883 match, and the Athletic players to repeat the, performance fifty-three .years ■-.later were D. Mclntyre,, E.-HV. Tindill, and R. Karsten! .
