P. Fraser and party to the nursery, and at the kind expressions of approval of the work and -the happy atmosphere of the institution. The meeting convened by the Smith Family at the Hotel St. George, and presided over by Colonel Cowles, ji when the nursery affairs were the-sub- £■ ject of discussion, was reported upon <; Mesdames 8.-B. Wood and Pritchard « were present, • and the nursery, was ■ ;; well represented. Various plans for - assisting ■ the funds of the' nursery I; were made, a bridge, party., among :,' others. Sincere sympathy was ex- ", pressed with Lady Luke and the fam- ;£ Uy V'of the late Mrs. Lukefin the loss ;; by death of the latter, who was quite i a young woman. Cooper £1 ss, arid' the Women's h Study Circle ss. j: ■ - . jj "Beauty in the Home." !: Taking "Beauty in the Home" •as her t theme, Mrs. M. De Muth' addressed a » highly appreciative audience of women £at a meeting of the Douglas Social f. Credit auxiliary. In an interesting * manner the lecturer traced' the ;■; "beauty" concept and the history of i. interior decorative art through its 1 various' developments of colour, line, * and form down to the, present day, ;so obviously impatient •of any .-•subtleties or intricacies in decorative . design. The lecture was helpfully .illustrated, by tangible examples of period wall-coverings in beautiful variety, and Mrs. De Muth gave her ■ .hearers much practical advice based ■on simple guiding rules. A very •'"hearty vote of thanks was passed, and .;; while questions were being asked and ' Answered tea was handed round. ■ Choir Fund Dance. i A plain and fancy dress masked' dance will be held in St. Hilda's Hall, : Humber Street, Island Bay, at an early date in aid of the choir ' fund. The committee responsible has arranged an attractive programme, and all guests may look for a happy evening. Kindergarten Ball. . Ngaio people are busy getting ready for their-annual kindergarten ball, and as very specially pleasurable arrangements are being made it is. hoped that there will be a very large attendance to help a good cause. •i Rainbow Triangle Party. A very pleasant and successful bridge party was given by Mr. and Mrs. David , Jones at their residence in Hill Street ■ this week in aid of theY.W.C.A. Rainbow Triangle Drive. Over: 60 guests were present; Huge ' fires, made the! rooms very comfortable and bowls of japonica ..added a jgay touch of colour. A delicious supper'was served in the . dining-room.,■Mrs/-.Joneß was assisted by her daughters, Misses M. and E. Jones,
