Many triends will learn with, regret that Mr.i George Hall, of Christchurch, has received, cabled news from his brother, Mr. Winter Hall (well known as a stagehand-screen actor) that his wife died at Hollywood on Tuesday last. . ;..v :■■ ■ •'.•,■■■-.■; i.-
Mrs. Hall, well known as Miss Katie Young, a brilliant pianist, was one of the very talented-New Zealanders who went abroad., "She gave generously of'her talents on! all occasions when she could help.good causes,, and was a very charming personality, altogether. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. C." Young, of Christchurch, and leaves one son, Mr;, Desmond. Hall, of New York. Her sisters are -Mrs.Vernie Aldridge, We^rigtoni Mrs; jtima Swain, Perth,. W.A. laiso■■'van!•■r accomplished pianist, .who frequently broadcasts), and Mr. J. G. Young, :Christchurcty is her brother. Miss: .Kara/Aldridge,- a member" of the Wellington 'Repertory Society, 'is. a niece of the late Mrs. Winter Hall. . ,(.v,;." . ■'-:■:■;.;:
: Mrs. Hall:was the only :>woman who has been a member of the Christchurch "Liedertafel," and was a ; splendid worker for the cause' of music, being much missed when she left' her native city. She had quite a tumultuous "send-off" /when she left, showing the appreciation felt by all for what she had done. She travelled a great deal after her marriage, and lived in Hollywood for some time.
The creaming of butter and sugar for cakes is easier if you stand the bowl over a pan of hot water. But be sure and do not let the butter "oil."
