THORNDON METHODIST CIRCUIT
The quarterly meeting of the Thorndon Methodist Circuit was held this week at Northland. A good attendance of members was presided over by the Rev. James Richards.
After the opening devotions, the chairman referred to the passing of Mrs. Clark, of Brooklyn, mother of Mrs. Cos*-" tain, of Karori parsonage Mention was also made of the death of (he daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson. Members stood as a mark of respedt. The meeting expressed deep regrbt at the news of the serious illness of the Rev. A. M. Costain, the new minister of Karori Church, who was tak^n to a private hospital for an opefation. Mr. Costain is now progressing very satisfactorily. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs. Costain. ;
Mr. Ridding, the newly-appointed circuit steward, "read the financial jreport and balance-sheet, which showed a very satisfactory state of affairs, the church senior membership being shown
Thanks were expressed by the mission secretary to «ach of the collectors for foreign missions, their books shewing they had worked in a most systematic way and the results being ahfead of some two or three previous years. The Home Mission appeal is to be launched on August 1, and during the month a very strong deputation is to visit the Methodist Churches. ' Mr. Cable presented the report of the youth department, which was very encouraging, all the Sunday schools being well maintained. '
Mr. Reed has taken control of the Northland School.
The Bible class leaders took part in the services of each church on" the occasion of Youth Sunday. ,
