ESPERANTO CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club was held last Monday night. Mr. Vernon J. Leek, D.8.E.A., presided.
Correspondence was received from Esperanto Clubs and individual Esperantists in England, France, Greece Egypt, Tripoli, Bulgaria, Canada, U.S.A., and Peru.
The president read an interesting letter in Esperanto from the secretary of the Canadian Esperanto Association announcing that Mr. Edgar Hornblow a member of the Wellington Esperanto Club en route to deliver a series of Esperanto lectures in 22 foreign countries in Europe, had been the guest of the Hamilton University, Canada where he had spoken on New Zealand. Mr. Hornblow had- also delivered a lantern lecture in Esperanto at the Toronto Esperanto Club, using slides and nim. lent him by the New Zealand Tourist Department, Wellington. • The vice-president. announced that he had received a letter from Mr. Joseph R. Scherer, of Los Angeles, world-famous Esperantist lecturer and author, conveying greetings to the Wellington Club.
Classes, translation and conversation groups were formed, after which the programme period opened with a recitation by Mr: Olaf Petersen, "Mia Penso," written by Dr. L. L. Zamenhof, author of Esperanto. Mr. Anton Vogt, secretary, gave a talk in Esperanto on"Tia Estats la Famo." Miss G. Boyd presented a travel talk- in Esperanto on "Rarotonga," illustrations being projected on to the screen by the club's epidiascope. Mr. L. D. Smith gave an amusing epidiascope talk on "Mi Bankrotis sur Farmbieno." Mr. Douglas R. Saunders and Mr. Frank Bailey presented a novel turn, the former with mystifying tricks and the latter with mathematical oddities, the item being interspersed with entertaining dialogue. " ■_
