OLD BOYS' DINNER

Bedding had piped in the haggis with: all due solemnity Mr. ■£.• B._Paton recited Burns's "Ode to a Haggis" over, it, and the thirteenth annual reunion: dinner of the Scots Co^ege Old Boys' Association, held at the Royal Oak Hotel last night, continued with all its usual gaiety and cheerful reminiscences. Over ninety old boys were present besides representatives from the: Board of Governorts and the Parents' Association. '~*■ A. Eaton: Hurley, in proposing the toast of "The School,", gave a brief outline of its .. It had gone through some hard times, he said, and once almpst had to close down, but it P. ad not closed and after each setback it had struggled up again stronger and better than before. Mr. Hurley emphasised the importance of religion in education. The toast was honoured by the Ringing of the school song. Mr. J. R. Sutcliffe, principal of the college, an reply,. thanked the old boys for their keen interest in the school, and briefly outlined its more rec? nt progress, saying that,-in spite of the slump, they wanted but " ten pupils to double the roll of 1930. He u*S £ laimed .the record f.or having held the position of .headmaster longer than any of his predecessors to date. A very popular item, which was heartily encored, was given during the evening by Mr. C. Stewart, who performed a sword dance to the lively piping of Mr. G. Bedding. .Among those/present were the Rev. J. R. Blanchard, Mr. A. P. Smith, and Mr. W. M. King, representing the Board of Governors; the Rev. A A Armstrong, the college chaplain; Mr." H. R. Biss, representing the Parents' Association; Mr, P. C. Watt, and Dr. A. W. Hogg.
