COMING WEEK'S FEATURES
Following are brief particulars of the programmes to be broadcast to New Zealand by the 8.8.C. Empire shortwave station at Daventry during the week commencing tomorrow. The programmes commence at 4 p.m. New Zealand time, the wave-lengths being as follows:—GSD, 25.53 metres; GSB, 31.55 metres. Tomorrow's programme opens at 4 p.m. with a recorded feature, "Seascape." This will be followed at 4.30 p.m. by "In England Now," arranged and presented by Reginald Arkell. At 4.45 p.m. the Gershom Parkington Quintet may be heard in selected popular numbers, followed at 5.25 by ' a special feature, "The Presentation of New Colours to the Brigade of Guards "by his Majesty the King." Saturday.. Claude. Hulbert and Bobbie Comber will open Saturday's programme with a variety cameo. At 4.17 the 8.8.C. Dance Orchestra will broadcast a programme of modern dance music, and at 4.40 there willbe a broadcast of a running commentary on the Eclipse Stakes from Sandown Park. This will be followed by a programme of light orchestral music. . Sunday. The service on Sunday will be an Empire service, from St. Paul's Cathedral, the preacher being the Rev. Canon ("Dick") H. R. L. Sheppard. At 4.52 Margaret Good may be heard in a pianoforte recital, lasting till 5.5, when commentaries on the Davis Cup inter-zone finals will be broadcast from Wimbledon.' Monday. Monday's programme will open with No. 2 of "Around the Counties"—a programme to recall some aspects of the Sussex scene. At 4.30 "Songs by Australian Composers" will be presented, the vocalist being Molly de Gunst, the popular Australian soprano. A 15-minute talk is scheduled for 4.40, followed at 4.45 by Reginald King and his Orchestra in a programme of popular music. Tuesday. The BIB.C. Dance Orchestra will open Tuesday's programme with thirtyfive minutes of modern dance music. At 4.35 a novel feature will be presented—a "training toss" 'of young homing i pigeons from Alexandra Palace to the owner's loft in Bloomsbury. At 4.55 Peggy Cochrane may be heard in a violin recital, followed at 5.10 by the 8.8.C. Men's, Chorus in a programme of students' songs. ,■ •» ' Wednesday. . ,The New Zealand .pianist, Esther Fisher,' will open Wednesday's programme in a studio concert, in conjunction with David Brynley (tenor) and Norman Notley (baritone). At 4.40 H. V. Hodson will, broadcast a talk on "Imperial Affairs." The Hirsch String Quartet may be heard at 4.55 in a recital of chamber music, followed at 5.25 by No. 12 of "Starlight," featuring Gordon Harker, the celebrated character actor. , Thursday. / 'A "surprise item" will open 'Thur.s day's programme. From 4.17 Reginald King and his Orchestra will broadcast popular music'till 5.15, when "The Proposal," a jest in one act, by Anton Tchevov, will be presented.
